On the evening of June 1, 2013, CVP hosted its First Annual Community Reception to celebrate its first year of programming and the accomplishments of the program and its students. CVP staff, City Council board members from Orange Cove, students and their family members, and many others were present at the reception that took place at the Visalia Holiday Inn.
Around 30 students from both Orange Cove and Lindsay High School were recognized for their exceptional participation and involvement with the program. CVP awarded scholarships to two highly qualified students from Orange Cove High School. Perla Andrade, a junior at OCHS received a $300 scholarship. Kimberley Montes, a graduating senior from OCHS and future UCLA student, received a $1000 scholarship. The CVP staff were also recognized for their countless hours of dedication to The Central Valley Project at UCLA. The Central Valley Project at UCLA is a student organization committed to serving our communities in the Central Valley. The mission of the Central Valley Project at UCLA is to motivate Central Valley students to pursue higher education, mentor students to build positive self-identities, and empower youth student leaders in our community. We are currently servicing two different towns in the Central Valley; we have a site in Orange Cove and one in Lindsay. For the following year, CVP will be expanding to larger areas of the Central Valley in order to cater to a larger population of youth. The areas will be those towns surrounding the current site locations of Orange Cove and Lindsay.
